Majors Gobbled Up by Battalion

BRAMPTON, ON — The Brampton Battalion were clearly the victors in their annual Thanksgiving Monday tilt with the Toronto St. Michael's Majors. They notched two goals in each of the 1st and 3rd periods and one in the 2nd to beat the Majors 5-1.

Luke Lynes got the scoring started for the Battalion 7:29 into the game with the assists going to Martin Lojek and Patrick Sweeney. Then, Howie Martin made it a 2-0 affair six minutes later off of Dan McDonald and Luch Aquino feeds. The offence kept rolling for the Battalion in the middle frame as Wojtek Wolski scored on the power-play at 6:02, with the helpers getting credited to Aquino and Ryan Oulahen.

Cal Clutterbuck finally got the Majors on the board at 7:44 of the 3rd period. Darryl Boyce and Travis Elder drew the assists. However, McDonald made it a 4-1 game at 14:45, on the power-play, before Oulahen applied the finishing touch, shorthanded, at 17:30 into an empty-net. The assists on the final two Brampton goals went to Lojek and McDonald.

Justin Peters got the start in net for the Majors and made 15 saves on 17 shots in the 1st period. He was then replaced by Wayne Savage, who went on to block 26 of the 28 shots he faced. Daren Machesney was only forced to make 21 saves for Brampton. The Majors finished the day 0 for 6 on the man-advantage while the Battalion were 2 for 5. The game's three stars were Lynes (1st), Brampton's Phil Oreskovic (2nd) and Oulahen (3rd).

The Majors record now sits at 3-2-2-1. They will welcome the Mississauga IceDogs on Thursday evening, October 14th, at 7:30 pm. They will then visit the IceDogs on Friday evening (October 15th) at 7:30 pm before coming home to host the Kitchener Rangers on Sunday, October 17th at 2:00 pm. Both home games will be available on Rogers television in the Toronto region, channel 10 and all three will be webcast at www.stmichaelsmajors.com.
