
Majors fend off the Attack

Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors played host to the Owen Sound Attack this evening in their second exhibition game of the year, and defeated the visiting squad by a score of 6-1. As a result of the victory, the Majors pre-season record shifts to 1-0-1.
Owen Sound's Spencer Metcalfe scored on the power play at 1:54 with help from Joey Hishon and Frankie Santini to open up the 1st period. However, Mississauga's Jared Gomes quickly tied things up at 4:39 while the assists went to Devante Smith-Pelly and Mike Pelech.
In the 2nd period, Gomes notched another goal for the Majors on a man-advantage at 5:36, to end the frame at 2-1. The assists went to Jordan Mayer and Matt Russo.
Mississauga powered ahead in the 3rd period, as Mayer (2:12), Rob Flick (3:47, on the power play) and Dustin Ekelman (7:46) each collected a marker to make it 5-1. Mayer, William Wallen, Blake Parlett, Dustin Ekelman, Riley Brace, and Corey Bureau were the helpers. Then, Wallen rounded out the scoring, with his tally coming at 19:11 on a man-advantage, to conclude the affair. The assists had gone to Brett Flemming and Bureau.
JP Anderson got the start in net and made 21 saves, while Chris Carrozzi shutout his half of the play and made 9 saves for the Majors.
Mississauga continues their exhibition play at home tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m., as they host the Peterborough Petes at Port Credit Memorial Arena (40 Stavebank Road, Mississauga). Tickets are available for purchase at the door for $5. Majors season ticket holders can attend all Majors home exhibition games free-of-charge.
The Majors 2008-09 regular season schedule kicks off on the road when they visit the Barrie Colts on September 18 at 7:30 p.m. Their home opener will take place on Friday, October 3 at 7:30 p.m. when they face-off against the Niagara IceDogs.
