Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
Milton, ON- The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors fell to the Peterborough Petes tonight in Milton, 4-2. The loss marks the first for the Majors this preseason.
With several players gone to NHL training camps the Majors had to rely on some remaining veterans and younger talent. Mississauga found themselves ahead after Casey Cizikas scored just over eight minutes into the opening period. The Majors penalty kill unit was successful in keeping the Petes power play unit off the score sheet to hold their 1-0 lead into the intermission.
The lead was erased just 14 seconds into the second period when Joey West tied the game for the Petes. Cizikas regained the lead for the Majors just over 12 minutes later with his second goal of the night. St. Mike's took the one-goal advantage into the final twenty minutes however the third would not end as the previous two periods did.
The Petes scored three times in the period including a power play goal to mount a 4-2 lead over Mississauga and that's how it would end. Kurt Gowdy, Justin Larson, and Jeff Swift were the goal scorers for Peterborough. Andrew D'Agostini and Keinan Brown combined to make 26 saves for the Petes. Brown earned the victory. Anthony Peters and Frank Gallo combined for 32 saves and Gallo took the loss for Mississauga.
