Majors Dominate In Ottawa

Ottawa, ON- The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors demonstrated their power with a dominant 4-0 victory over the Ottawa 67's at the Urbandale Centre this afternoon. The win moves Mississauga to 21-6-2-0 on the season.

After a disappointing loss Friday night in Kingston, the Majors came out determined and dictated play from the opening whistle. While the first period did not provide any goals for either side; the Majors displayed a more characteristic performance of themselves.

St. Mike's did their damage in the second period when Casey Cizikas got things started just under four minutes in. Devante Smith-Pelly added his eighteenth goal of the season and Riley Brace notched his sixth all in a span of eight minutes to give the Majors a 3-0 lead heading into the second intermission.

The strong play continued into the third, and Joe Cramarossa made the deficit 4-0 when he scored his fifth of the season. The Majors shutdown all Ottawa chances for the remainder of the period and leave with two points. Cizikas, Smith-Pelly and Brett Flemming all recorded multi-point games for St. Mike's. The win also halted Ottawa's three game win streak. Coming into today's game Ottawa were an impressive 9-1 in their past 10 games.

Majors Goaltender picked up his first career win in Ottawa and made 22 saves; he also recorded his third shutout of the year. Chris Perugini and Petr Mrazek combined for 35 saves in a losing effort for Ottawa. With the win, Mississauga cuts Barrie's lead in the division and conference to seven points with a game in-hand.

The Majors will know head to Oshawa to meet the Generals on Thursday night, in a game that will mark Coach Dave Cameron's final appearance before leaving for his duties with Team Canada at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship later this month. The Majors will then return home to host the Defending OHL and Memorial Cup Champions, the Windsor Spitfires on Friday night at 7:30. The 67's will then come to town a week from today (Sunday) at 2:00 p.m.
