The Majors record now sits at 2-2-0-0 on the season, as a result of tonight's loss.
Niagara's Alex Friesen potted two goals early to get the home squad ahead 2-0, heading into intermission. The forward's first tally came 2:50 into the 1st period, and then followed up with his second goal at 13:29. Matt Baldassarra, Jay Gilbert, Freddie Hamilton and Chris DeSousa provided the feeds.
Jordan Mayer got the Majors on the board 8:22 into the 2nd period on a man-advantage, with assists coming from Cameron Gaunce and Casey Cizikas. But the IceDogs responded, as Andrew Agozzino's goal came shortly after at 13:13, to make it 3-1. The helpers were DeSousa and Friesen. Then, DeSousa scored off of passes from Marco Insam and Friesen with only 25 seconds left in the frame to end it at 4-1.
Mayer's second goal of the night came 5:25 into the 3rd period on the power-play, as the Majors cut the lead in half, 4-2. Gaunce and Blake Parlett got the assists. However, the IceDogs held onto the lead to escape with the win.
JP Anderson started between the pipes for the Majors and blocked 13 shots while Chris Carrozzi took over in the final frame and made 7 stops of his own. Mark Visentin turned aside 50 total shots for the IceDogs. Mississauga went 2 for 10 on the power-play while Niagara finished 1 for 6. The three stars of tonight's game were Friesen (1st), Visentin (2nd) and DeSousa (3rd).
