Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Belleville, ON- The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors erased their four game losing skid with a solid 4-2 over the Belleville Bulls tonight at the Yardmen Arena. The win improves the Majors to 38-16-4-2 on the season.

While most eyes in the country were on the Canada, Russia game the Majors made sure they didn't continue the play from last week. The Bulls took the lead in the game but that would be it for Belleville as the Majors responded and won convincingly tonight. Luke Judson opened the scoring for the Bulls on the power play just over two minutes into the first period. The Bulls captain redirected a shot from Steven Strong to beat Majors netminder Chris Carrozzi. The teams exchanged chances and at 14:04 the Majors pulled even. T.J. Battani playing in his second game since missing eight straight due to injury, beat Tyson Teichmann with a strong backhander that went in off the crossbar. Jordan Mayer got the puck to Battani, Battani then carried it behind the net and to the face off dot and let go his backhander to tie the game. Just twenty-two seconds later the Majors put themselves ahead. Jordan Mayer again grabbed the assist with some good work at centre. Mayer then crossed the blueline and passed to a streaking Riley Brace, Brace blew past the Bulls defence leaving him all alone with Teichmann. Brace pulled the puck from his forehand to his backhand fooling Teichmann and raising the puck over the sprawling goalie to make it 2-1 for Mississauga after one period.

Devante Smith-Pelly has had a productive career against the Bulls thus far and added another goal to his tally at 13:40 of the second period to give the Majors a 3-1 lead. After a cross ice pass from William Wallen, Casey Cizikas fired a shot on goal, Teichmann produced a big rebound that Smith-Pelly whacked into the net to increase the lead. The Bulls power play unit answered back and drew the game to within one at 16:18. Andy Bathgate's shot from the point beat Carrozzi to make it 3-2.

The Majors head into the third period with the lead and began their shutdown of the opposition but not before Rob Flick made it 4-2. Just over five minutes in Flick cut into centre and beat Teichmann five hole to increase the Majors lead. The Majors then limited Belleville's chances and end their four game road trip with a victory. Chris Carrozzi made 22 saves and earned the victory for the Majors. Tyson Teichmann stopped 27 of the 31 shots he faced in a losing effort. The Majors will head home for two games this weekend. First on Friday night the Majors will welcome cross town rivals the Brampton Battalion at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday the Majors will host the Oshawa Generals with a special 12:00 Noon start time.
