Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
TORONTO, ON â The goaltending duel lived up to its billing on this day as two of the country's brightest netminding prospects played a key role in this evening's 1-1 tie. The two goaltenders in question are Justin Peters of the Majors and David Shantz of the IceDogs. With the draw, the Majors run their 2003-04 unbeaten streak versus the IceDogs to five games.
There was no scoring until the 10:43 mark of the 2nd period when former Majors' player Daryl Knowles chipped one in for Mississauga off a feed from Brad Efthimou. Ryan Rorabeck responded for the Majors at 10:07 of the 3rd period, with assists going to Dustin VanBallegooie and Tim Brent.
The Majors outshot the IceDogs 42-31 in this rather physical affair. The fact that the goaltenders weren't forced to make any spectacular saves is a testament to the defensive play that was exhibited. On this night, a power-play goal would have, probably made the difference. However, the two teams were a combined 0/9 with the man-advantage. The game's three stars were VanBallegooie (1st), Shantz (2nd) and Rorabeck (3rd).
The Majors tie, coupled with the Colts' loss, vaults Toronto into 2nd place in the Central Division, five points behind the IceDogs. Although Toronto and Barrie each possess 52 points, the Majors have a game in hand.
The Majors will travel to Oshawa to battle the Generals tomorrow evening (Friday, January 23rd) at 7:35 pm and to Owen Sound to face off against the Attack on Saturday, January 24th at 7:30 pm. Both of these contests will be available in the Toronto region on Rogers television (channel 10). Their next home game will be Saturday, February 7th at 2:00 pm when the Plymouth Whalers come calling. Individual tickets for all Majors' home games can be purchased at the St. Michael's College School Arena box office, by calling Ticketmaster at (416) 872-5000 or online at www.ticketmaster.ca.
