Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., Sept. 13, 2006) - A night after the Ducks fell to the Riversharks in an 18-inning, six hour and 20 minute marathon, Pat Mahomes led Long Island in a sprint of a victory. The former Met led the Flock to a 5-0 win over the 'Sharks in just two hours and one minute, the quickest time for any Ducks game this season.
Mahomes recorded his 10th win of the season after fanning 10 batters and walking none while scattering four hits over nine spectacular frames. The native Texan (10-4) faced just three batters over the minimum while only one Rivershark reached second base.
His offense gave him all the run support he would need in the game's opening frame, as Erick Almonte scored Mel Stocker on a single through the middle. Stocker would cross the plate again in the home half of the third on a Bucky Jacobsen RBI single before Henry Rodriguez drilled a two-run homer later in the frame. Stocker wrapped up the game's scoring at five the following frame with a sacrifice fly that scored Brad King.
Long Island and Camden will play the rubber-match at Citibank Park on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Lefty Bill Pulsipher (4-4) will take the hill for the Quack Attack against righty Mark DiFelice (11-8). The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive collectible mini Corvettes presented by Ramp Corvette. Tickets for this and all Ducks regular season and playoff home games can be purchased by stopping by the Citibank Park Box Office in person (M-F, 10-6; Saturdays 10-2), visiting www.liducks.com or by calling 631-940-TIXX today.
Duck Tales...Pat Mahomes became the second Duck pitcher this season to reach 10th win mark. He is just the sixth pitcher in club history to reach that mark... On a night where the number 10 stood out, Pat Mahomes tied Pete Hartmann for most strike-outs in a single game this season with, obviously, 10...Henry Rodriguez' two-run homer was his first long ball since August 5th, and 11th of the season... Mel Stocker added another stolen base to his franchise record single-season total, his 52nd, with his third inning swipe of second...This evening's crowd of 5014 raises the total to 3,018,824 fans that have enjoyed baseball at Citibank Park since April of 2000.
The Long Island Ducks are in their seventh season of play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. They have averaged over 100 percent attendance capacity of 6,002-seat Citibank Park in each of their first six seasons and are one of the most successful minor league sports franchises in the country.
