Magic Trio Earn League Honors

McALLEN, Texas---- The Rio Grande Valley Magic are proud to announce that Billy Garza, Marcel Douglas, and Leo Araguz have been named to player of the week for week eight of the Lone Star Football League.

Billy Garza was named offensive player of the week for his performance against the Laredo Rattlesnakes. Garza threw for 350 yards with nine touchdowns while completing 27 of 37 passes.

Leo Araguz was named to special team player of the week for his performance against Laredo. Araguz went 7 of 11 in extra point attempts and averaged 48.2 per kickoff.

Douglas is no stranger to earning the defensive player of week award. Douglas earned the award for his stellar play against Laredo while contributing five solo tackles, two interceptions, and four pass break-ups. He also pitched in the return game amassing 254 yards in field goal returns. This is Marcel's third honor as he earned the award in week two versus Corpus Christi and in week four versus West Texas.

This is the second time this season where the Magic take league honors this season. In week six, wide receiver Danny Young earned the offensive honor and defensive back Humberto Cerda took the defensive honor.

The Magic will have a road game against the Amarillo Venom on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the Cal Farley Coliseum with the kickoff at 7:05 p.m.

Magic home and away games can be heard on 840 AM Fox Sports Radio with a 15 minute pre-game show hosted by play-by-play voice Ric Miller.

The Magic will have their next home game on Monday, June 4, 2012 as they will host the West Texas Roughnecks at the State Farm Arena with the kickoff at 7:05 p.m. The Magic will wear commemorative pink jerseys and use pink footballs through-out the game. The first 500 fans will receive pink replica RGV Magic jerseys. After the game the Magic will auction off the jerseys and footballs with all the proceeds going to a breast cancer foundation.

The Magic are members of the Lone Star Football League, an independent league of seven professional indoor football teams located in Texas that include Amarillo, Corpus Christi, Laredo, Odessa, Abilene, and Houston.
