MONCTON, N.B. - Another massive third-quarter surge by the Moncton Magic was too much for the Halifax Hurricanes to handle on Saturday night in Moncton at the Avenir Centre.
The Hurricanes dropped their second game in a row to their New Brunswick rivals by a large margin with a final score of 104-78 in Moncton's favour.
The Hurricanes kept the game very close through the first half, exchanging leads with the Magic more than once, but it was a 37-11 third-quarter run that smothered the Hurricanes chances of a win on the road.
The new young Hurricanes squad managed to outscore the Magic by five in the fourth quarter, but their consistent effort came too late to have an effect.
New Hurricanes forward Kedar Edwards led the Halifax squad with 12 points.
Fellow newcomers David Andoh and Jahmel Taylor had 11 apiece, with Taylor going three for five from the three-point line. Jordan Washington and Joel Kindred each finished with 10 points in the loss.
As a team, the Hurricanes shot a just 33% from the field and hit only 60% of their free throws.
With so many new pieces this season, the Hurricanes will try to iron out the kinks over the weekend before their next game.
