Magic Fall in Opener

HIDALGO, Texas---- The Rio Grande Valley Magic dropped their inaugural game of the Lone Star Football League by a score of 43-31 to the Laredo Rattlesnakes

The Rattlesnakes got on the on a Matt Jeffers four yard touchdown and Radamez Rubio added the point after for a 7-0. The drive lasted eight plays and 45 yards which took over four minutes off the clock.

After few turnovers by both teams the Rattlesnakes took a 10-0 lead at the intermission courtesy of a 22 yard field goal by Radamez.

The Magic got on the board in the third quarter via a touchdown from Billy Garza to Danny Young from 8 yards out which made the score at that point 10-6. Kicker Leo Araguz added the extra-point to make the score 10-7. The drive lasted over three minutes with five plays and 36 yards.

Both teams score most of their points in the fourth quarter but at the end it was the Laredo Rattlesnakes that ensured the victory on a safety via a missed extra point which made the score at that point 40-31.

Danny Young had a team high of 160 yards receiving while making 13 receptions. Billy Garza threw for 273 yards while completing 22 passes.

The Magic will continue their inaugural season in the Lone Star Football League on the road against the Corpus Christi Hammerheads on Monday night April 9, 2012 at the American Bank Center with the kickoff set for 7:05 p.m. The Magic will have their next home game on Saturday May 5, 2012 as they will host the Amarillo Venom at the State Farm Arena. The Magic are members of the Lone Star Football League, an independent league of seven professional indoor football teams located in Texas that include Amarillo, Corpus Christi, Laredo, Odessa, Abilene, and Houston.
