Rio Grande Valley Magic News Release
McALLEN, Texas ---- Earning three wins in a row is not an easy thing indoor football, particularly during a short week like the Rio Grande Valley Magic endured. Their last victory over the road against the Amarillo Venom was a back and forth game in the second half where they were able to overcome a double-digit deficit.
Head Coach Schuyler "Skyler" Anderson said, "After pulling off two back to back impressive wins at home, our team was put to the test as we had to take a 15 hour road trip to Amarillo, Texas to face a Venom team looking for pay back. After starting the game out sluggish on defense and in the secondary, we were picked apart at times, I knew adjustments had to happen. Our offense battled back in the second half and our defensive line applied the right pressure to not only cause a 4th down stop but also a safety in the end zone. At that point our offense didn't look back as we were able to hold off a scrappy Venom team in front of their home crowd."
Coach Anderson commented on the upcoming home game against West Texas "Heading into the West Texas game and some much needed changes for the better as we continue our quest for a championship one game at a time, I feel we need to make sure we start fast and not look back. I have told the guys not to under estimate West Texas even though they seem to be struggling right now. We need to continue to focus on playing Magic Football and at a high level. I'm confident that our guys will go into this game with that mindset and protect the current win streak."
Magic home and away games can be heard on 840 AM Fox Sports Radio with a 15-minute pre-game show hosted by play-by-play voice Ric Miller.
The Magic will have their next home game on Monday, June 4, 2012, as they will host the West Texas Roughnecks at the State Farm Arena with the kickoff at 7:05 p.m. The Magic will wear commemorative pink jerseys and use pink footballs throughout the game. The first 500 fans will receive pink replica RGV Magic jerseys. After the game, the Magic will auction off the jerseys and footballs with all the proceeds going to a breast cancer foundation. Season and individual tickets are available by calling (956) 905-5401 or visiting a ticket master outlet.
The Magic are members of the Lone Star Football League, an independent league of seven professional indoor football teams located in Texas that include Amarillo, Corpus Christi, Laredo, Odessa, Abilene, and Houston.
