Macon Jumps Out Early

August 1, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
Aiken Foxhounds News Release

AIKEN, S.C. - The Aiken Foxhounds (30-35, 8-12) could not stop the bleeding Wednesday night as the visiting Macon Music (41-22, 11-7) scored 10 runs in the first three innings and cruised to a 15-5 victory to finish off a three-game sweep of the host Foxhounds.

Macon did not waste any time making it known they intended to finish off the three-game sweep, and Aiken did little to stop them in the first inning. After starting pitcher Steve Dunham retired the first two batters, the next eight Music hitters reached base on either a walk, base hit, or a Foxhound error.

With three runs in and two outs, Dunham induced a ground ball to second from Travis Wiley that was bobbled by second baseman Bradley Key, letting the inning continue for the pitcher Ross Stout. With the bases loaded, Stout hit a two-run single up the middle to plate two unearned runs. Carlos Arroyo added an RBI single to drive in Wiley for a 6-0 lead before Dunham got out of the inning.

The Music added to the lead in the third inning, plating four runs on three hits to increase their lead to double digits. Arroyo had an RBI double and Dorian Rojas blasted a three-run home run to right to account for the visitors' scoring.

A Chris Colton solo home run in the top of the fourth made the score 11-0 Music. Dunham (5-7) pitched four innings, allowing 11 runs, eight earned, on 11 hits.

Meanwhile, Macon starter Ross Stout cruised through the first four innings without allowing a hit. Aiken finally got to the hurler in the bottom of the fifth, when Ryan Pressley singled with one out and scored when Andy Lane followed with a home run to left field.

In the next inning, Macon reliever Bryce Florie ran into some trouble as the Foxhounds tried to make it interesting. Lane again did the damage, this time hitting a two-run double to the left center field gap. Scott Houin added an RBI double as the Hounds cut the deficit to 11-5.

The home team would get no closer as Macon added four more runs in the late innings and Music relievers Devin Anderson, Jason Lowey, and Cesar Herrera combined to shut down the Aiken offense over the last 3.1 innings.

Arroyo went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBI to lead the Macon offense while Rojas also drove in four runs. Scott Robinson, Colton, and Stout each added two hits.

Aiken was led by Lane, who finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI. Pressley and Houin each added two hits in four at-bats.

Aiken now hits the road for six games away from Hernandez Stadium, beginning tomorrow with a game at Anderson at 7:05 PM.
