Joes Take Series From Peanuts

August 1, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
South Georgia Peanuts News Release

The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, lost a series to the Anderson Joes for the first time this season on Wednesday night. In one of the most lopsided games this season, the Peanuts lost 11-2 and the Joes took the series two games to one.

After a scoreless inning for each team, the hinges came off for South Georgia in the bottom of the second inning. Six runs came around to score for Anderson in an inning that featured two Peanuts errors. The biggest hit of the inning was a two-run home run off the bat of Blake Gailen.

Peanuts starter Shannon Wirth came back out in the third inning but the only out he could record was a Richard Quihuis-Bell sacrifice. Three more runs scored in the third to make it a 9-0 game. Anderson put across a run in the fifth and eight innings as well.

South Georgia made some noise late in the ballgame. In the seventh inning, Kyle Keen led off with a double and scored on a Johnny Washington single. In the eighth inning, Steve Butler singled and eventually came around to score on a Curtis Goodwin Sr. single.

The best day at the plate came for Keen who was 3-4 with a double and a run scored. Doc Brooks ended up 2-2 before being taken out with the game out of hand.

South Georgia returns home for 12 consecutive contests at home. The Peanuts open a three-game set with the Charlotte County Redfish on Thursday night. First pitch is set for 7:10 with Dustin Taylor getting the start. Tickets are still available by visiting the Peanuts box office at Paul Eames Park or by logging onto southgeorgiapeanuts.com. The game can be heard in South Georgia on "1450 The Fan" and worldwide at southgeorgiapeanuts.com
