MacLean Dominates in Game One Victory

Kalamazoo, MI- Ken MacLean posted 25 saves for his first career post-season shutout, as the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings rolled to a 4-0 victory over the Traverse City North Stars in game one of the North Divisional Semifinals on Friday at the Borgess Health Rink at Wings West.

Kalamazoo had a picture-perfect start to game one, as Brandon Flood (1st) scored just 58 seconds into the game. Flood received a stretch pass behind the Traverse City defense from teammate Alex Brooks, and took a wrister on his breakaway to give the Jr. K-Wings a 1-0 lead on the only goal of the period.

Kalamazoo tacked on to their lead with a power play goal by Robbie Payne (1st) at the 6:40 mark of the second period. Payne handled a rebound off a Drew Graves shot and took a wrap around to the near side to stuff it past Traverse City goalie, Kyle Laslo.

7:44 into the third, Kalamazoo padded their lead on the first of the playoffs by Jacob McDowell. McDowell, parked in front of the goal, deflected a shot fromFlood, which found the back of the net.

Just 36 seconds later, Austin Hervey sealed the deal and gave Kalamazoo a 4-0 lead, which would stand till the end of the game, with his first of the playoffs.

The Jr. K-Wings will return to the Borgess Health Rink at Wings West again on Saturday, April 7th in game two of the Robertson Cup Divisional Semifinals vs. the Traverse City North Stars at 2:00 pm.
