
MacKellar, Brown snap goalless droughts to down LSB

Odessa, Texas - The Odessa Jackalopes used a monster three-goal second period and held off the Lone Star Brahmas to earn a 4-1 victory and a weekend split Saturday night at Ector County Coliseum. Both Ryan MacKellar and Derek Brown snapped long goalless droughts while Jon Flakne made 20 saves on 21 shots to earn a win in his Odessa debut.
In the first, Tomas Brejcha (2) scored his first goal since September 26 when he corralled a Jacks turnover and snuck it past Flakne on the far side at 5:49. Ryan MacKellar (5) then snapped his 26-game goal less drought a far-side snipe after a perfect cross-ice pass from Danny Kiraly at 6:22.
Odessa killed off four Brahma' power plays in the second frame and then broke through for a season-high three-goal second. First Derek Brown (5) jammed home his first goal in his last 21 games to give the Jacks a 2-1 lead at 2:00. Hampus Sjodahl (19) extended the lead to two when he sniped a high-slot shot over the far shoulder of Corbin Kaczperski at 8:37 and then Zach Zech (12) capped off the three-goal period by sniping a two-on-one past Kaczperski (14:39).
In the third, the Jacks held off Lone Star, who only managed five shots to earn it fist win versus the Brahmas since January 1.
Kaczperski (16-6-2) took his first loss against Odessa in four games, making 11 saves on 15 shots.
