Wyandotte, Mich. - Jake Friedman scored 13 seconds into overtime to lead the Motor City Machine to a 3-2 win over Traverse City on Friday night at Yack Arena.

"It's a huge win," Machine head coach Sean Clark said. "It's fantastic. We talk about earning wins every night and tonight we earned it."

The Machine jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the final seven minutes of the first period on the heels of goals by Billy Balent and Alec Thieda.

Traverse City would come back with two goals in the second by Eric O'Hearn (shorthanded) and Chris Heineman. Heineman's goal came with just eight seconds left in the period.

The third period was a back and forth affair with each team having its chances but neither able to convert.

The game would eventually go to overtime, a first for the Machine at Yack.

It didn't last long, though, as Friedman scored 13 seconds in to win the game for the Machine. Ryan Misiak and Thieda picked up the assists. It capped a 3-point night for Thieda and a 2-point night for Friedman.

"I told Friedman with five minutes to go in the third that he was due and one was coming for him," Clark said. "He's got good speed in open ice. He's got good speed, got to a scoring area and released it. You're going to score goals doing that."

Joe Moore made 23 saves for the Machine. Brandon Stephenson made 18 saves for the North Stars.

These two teams meet again tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m. at Yack.
