New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[RIO RANCHO, N. M.] - The Scorpions will welcome back another familiar face as head coach Randy Murphy has signed Craig Macdonald for the 2008-09 season. Macdonald is the 10th player signed for the upcoming season and the sixth player to return from last year's roster.
Last season Macdonald enjoyed a career year setting all sorts of personal highs with 63 points, including 29 goals and 34 assists. He was one of the team's most consistent players scoring at least a point in 40 of the 60 games he played in.
"We are looking for Craig to build on last year, and not be complacent with his success" said Murphy. "I know he can be even better this year. He has maturity inside the locker room beyond his fours years as a professional player."
Macdonald, 25, enters his fifth year of professional hockey and his third in a Scorps jersey. Including his two seasons with the Elmira Jackals, he has played in 194 games scoring 129 points (61 G, 68 A).
"It will be important that I make sure to grow on the year I had last year and not take a step back," said Macdonald. "I know I have to be one of the leaders on this team and I will use what I have learned from the veteran players who have taught me over the past few years."
In other roster moves, Sylvain Michaud has had a change of heart. Originally he was to report to Scorpions training camp but has changed his plans and will now play in France.
"Come for the fun...Stay for the hockey" up to 32 times this season. The Scorpions have their most fan friendly schedule ever with 25 of 32 home games on the weekend. Put a smile on your face by coming to see your professional hockey team. Season tickets start as low as $7 per game.
Corporate partnerships and group ticket prices are now more affordable than ever after the Scorpions reduced prices across the board. Call the Scorpions' office at (505) 881-PUCK (7825) or visit www.scorpionshockey.com to find out more information about your professional hockey team. The Scorpions have been named the 2008 Rio Rancho Rotary Business of the Year.
