Mississippi Braves News Release
MONTGOMERY, AL - The Mississippi Braves (16-20) scored two late runs but came up short in a 3-2 loss to the Montgomery Biscuits (19-18) on Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
The series is tied at two games apiece. The M-Braves have won seven of their last nine games.
Ronny Simon led off the bottom of the first with a double and scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0.
LHP Domingo Robles' start went 4 2/3 innings, allowing three runs off three hits and two walks with six strikeouts. The left-hander took the loss and is now 3-2 with a 1.99 ERA in six appearances, five starts, this season. His counterpart RHP Anthony Molina earned his first win with six shutout innings.
Javier Valdes extended his on-base streak to 13 games with a base hit in the fourth inning. Over the streak, Valdes is batting .390 with four home runs, six RBI, 11 walks and a 1.299 OPS.
The Biscuits added two more in the fifth off two hits and led 3-0 heading into the seventh.
With Molina out of the game, the M-Braves instantly started producing. Tyler Tolve led off the seventh with a line-drive double to the gap in right center. After Drew Lugbauer walked, Cade Bunnell lined a base hit into to score Tolve and make it 3-1. A deep sacrifice fly to center by Beau Philip scored Lugbauer and pulled the M-Braves within one run.
RHP Coleman Huntley III and RHP Trey Riley kept it close, combining for 3 1/3 shutout innings. Huntley III dropped to a 2.20 ERA over 16 1/3 innings this season.
The M-Braves failed to get something going in the last two innings. RHP Chris Gau retired six in a row for his first save of the season.
The fifth game of the series is on Saturday at Riverwalk Stadium. RHP Alan Rangel (1-3, 4.66) will make the start for Mississippi with a to be determined pitcher starting for Montgomery. The first pitch is at 6:35 pm CT, with coverage starting 15 minutes before on 102.1 The Box, First Pitch App, and Bally Live.
