M-Braves Drop Series Finale to Biscuits 4-1

MONTGOMERY, AL - The Mississippi Braves (29-40) dropped the series finale 4-1 to the Montgomery Biscuits (28-34) on Sunday afternoon at Riverwalk Stadium. The day marked the end of the first half of the season in the Southern League.

The Rocket City Trash Pandas won the first half North Division title, and the Pensacola Blue Wahoos won the first half South Division title, earning both spots in the Southern League postseason.

The M-Braves scored in the opening frame after a leadoff walk by Cody Milligan scored on a fielder's choice ground from CJ Alexander to take a 1-0 lead.

Alexander leads the club with 34 RBI. His 12 homers are tied for seventh in the Southern League.

In the bottom of the first, the Biscuits scored three runs on four hits to take a 3-1 lead. A solo homer by Jacson McGowan made it 4-1 through two innings.

With two runners on in the third, Andrew Moritz reached on an infield single on a ball that bounced off the glove of SS Greg Jones in to center field. Justin Dean tried to score from second base, but Jones recovered and threw out Dean at the plate to keep the Biscuits in front 4-1.

Moritz went 2-for-4, extending his hit streak to 10 games. Over the streak, he is hitting .368 with three doubles and five RBI. The outfielder posted another 10-game hit streak from May 18-30.

Dean put together his seventh multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.

Neither team scored in the final seven innings of the game.

RHP Coleman Huntley III highlighted the pitching staff with two scoreless innings and four strikeouts.

The M-Braves start a six-game road series against the Biloxi Shuckers on Tuesday. The M-Braves return home for a six-game home series starting on July 4th against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. The July 4th game features a post-game fireworks extravaganza presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi.
