Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Lynchburg cracked three home runs, including two by Kent Sakamoto in an 8-3 win over Kinston in the series opener at City Stadium on Friday night. Game two is on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. back at Calvin Falwell Field.

Pedro Alvarez put the first run of the night on the board with a solo home run with two outs in the bottom of the first inning. It was the fifth home run of the season for the Pirates first round selection a year ago.

The Indians would gain their first lead of the night in the top of the fourth with three runs. Ronald Rivas and Alex Castillo both brought in a run with a base hit to help give the K-Tribe a 3-1 lead.

The Cats would respond quickly though with a five-run inning in the bottom of the fourth to regain the lead at 6-3. Miles Durham, Kris Watts and Jose De Los Santos all drove in a run in the frame with a single and Kent Sakamoto smacked his first home run of the season, a two-run shot.

Lynchburg added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a head's up play by Alvarez. He tagged and scored on a pop-up to the shortstop in shallow left-centerfield to push the lead to four runs. Kinston manager Chris Tremie got ejected from the game for arguing the call.

In the bottom of the eighth inning the Cats tacked on another run to finish the scoring when Sakamoto blasted his second home run of the night. Sakamoto hadn't hit an extra-base hit in 12 games this season before his multi-homer game on Friday night.

The second game of the three-game series takes place on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at City Stadium. Lefty Justin Wilson (2-1, 5.00) will get the start for the Hillcats opposite southpaw Eric Berger (2-1, 1.42) for the Indians.

Saturday is "Smoke Free" "Say No To Drugs" night #2 at City Stadium presented by Tobacco Use Control Project.

If you can't make it out to the ballpark tune-in for all the live action beginning at 6:40 p.m. with the Hillcats On-Deck Show on FM 105.5 KD Country.
