THE HILLCATS : Lost to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans last night 6-3...OF David Rohm singled to break up the perfect game bid for RHP Luke Jackson with a two-out single in the fifth...The Hillcats did not score until the eighth inning, after Jackson had completed seven scoreless frames and left the game...LHP Blaine Sims took the loss for the Hillcats allowing six runs in four-plus innings...He gave up two home runs on the night...The Hillcats are now 2-6 in the second half, still in fourth place in the Northern Division...

VS. MYRTLE BEACH: The Hillcats are 6-5 against the Pelicans this season, 6-1 in Lynchburg, but 0-4 at the beach...The last time these two clubs met was May 27-30 in Lynchburg...The 'Cats swept the four-game series and limited the Pelicans to just five runs total...The last time Lynchburg traveled to Myrtle Beach, the Pelicans swept the series, holding the Hillcats to six runs in three games...

BAD TRAVELERS: Lynchburg is now 0-6 on the first day of road trips to places other than Salem and Winston-Salem...Those are the two closest opposing venues in the league for the Hillcats...In fact, they commute to Salem...The 'Cats have lost to Myrtle Beach twice, Frederick once, Wilmington once, Potomac twice on travel days...

TAKING ON WATER : Last night's loss dropped the Hillcats to 38-39 overall this season...The last time they were below .500 was after a 3-2 loss to the Winston-Salem Dash on April 23...The Hillcats were 8-9...One game under .500 is the worst record the 'Cats have had this season...They were also 7-8 and 0-1 early this season...

WORST STRETCH OF NINE: The Hillcats have won just two of their last nine games going back to the final game of the first half...They had not gone nine games without winning at least three contests all season, making this their worst losing stretch of the year...Tonight, they will try to fend off a fourth straight loss for the second time already here in the second half...The Hillcats are yet to lose four games in a row...

FIRST TIMERS : LHP Blaine Sims gave up six runs in four-plus innings last night, and four of those runs came from long balls...On top of that, neither home run hitter had launched one over the wall all year...INF Edwin Garcia hit his first of the season in the third inning....SS Luis Sardinas then cracked his first of the year in the four...

LONG TIME COMING: The Hillcats have finally said so long to OF Robby Hefflinger as he departed for Double-A Mississippi yesterday...He leaves the Carolina League as it's leader in home runs (21), slugging percentage (.579), extra-base hits (39), and total bases (162)...He was batting .286 with 52 RBI in 74 games...This is first promotion to Double-A after playing parts of each of the last three seasons in Lynchburg...He is replaced by OF Josh Elander who was hitting .318 with 11 home runs, and 61 RBI for Low-A Rome, where he was a All-Star in the South Atlantic League...Elander went 1-for-3 in his Advanced-A debut....

ROHM SWEET ROHM: OF David Rohm went 2-for-4 with a run scored last night...He extended his current hitting streak to eight games, batting .355 (11-for-31) during this stretch...He has now scored in three straight games, after not scoring for seven games prior to Tuesday night...The run scoring drought fell one game short of his season worst stretch of eight games from May 31-June 8...But Rohm only had one hit in those eight games in 26 at-bats, an average of .038...In his more recent seven game scoreless stretch he had nine hits and a walk...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Nick Martinez was drafted in the 18th round of the 2011 draft by the Rangers out of Fordham University in New York...Primarily a position player in college...Made five appearances on the mound his freshman year, none his sophomore year, and 10 appearances his junior year (1-3, 2.75, 3 SV)...Drafted as a pitcher by the Rangers...Made 15 appearances, 11 starts between the Arizona League Rangers and the Spokane Indians (Short-season A) after signing in 2011...Went 3-3 with a 2.30 ERA and struck out 56 in 58.2 innings...Spent 2012 with Low-A Hickory...Went 8 -6 with a 4.83 ERA in 31 games, 20 starts...Struck out 109 in 117.1 frames...South Atlantic League All-Star...Lost his first start this year against Hillcats (4.1ip, 4h, 4er, 2bb, 3k)...Beat the Hillcats on May 8 (6ip, 5h, 2r, 1er, 2bb, 3k)...
