THE HILLCATS: The Hillcats beat the Wilmington Blue Rocks yesterday 3-2...The Blue Rocks scored their only two runs in the first inning...OF Adam Milligan put the Hillcats on the board in the fourth inning with a solo homer...OF David Rohm singled in the tying run in the fifth...The game was still 2-2 in the ninth, when INF Emerson Landoni hit into a 4-6 fielder's choice with the bases loaded to drive in the go-ahead run...The 'Cats are now 27-29 in the second half and tied for second place in the Northern Division, 2.5 games out of first...
VS. WINSTON-SALEM: Lynchburg is 6-6 against the Dash this season...The Hillcats are the only team that the Dash do not have a winning record against this season...Each team is 4-2 at home against the other...Neither has swept a series...Both won their respective division in the first half and are headed to the playoffs...They have played three extra inning games, with the Dash winning two of the three...The Hillcats' longest game this season was a 12 inning, 13-12 loss in Winston-Salem July 8, that lasted three hours and 53 minutes...
LAST CALL: The Hillcats begin their final homestand tonight...The Dash are in town for four games, followed by the Blue Rocks for three...The Dash currently lead the Southern Division, while the Blue Rocks are first in the North...
FLAIR FOR THE DRAMATIC: Saturday marked the 15th walk-off the Hillcats have been a part of this season...The Blue Rocks beat the 'Cats 1-0 on a bases loaded single in the bottom of the ninth...RHP Ian Marshall walked in the game-winner in the bottom of the 10th inning Thursday night....They are 6-9 when the game ends on a walk-off this season......
NO OFFENSE, BUT...: The Hillcats bats have been nearly silent over the last five games...They have scored just seven runs in that span...The only worse stretches the 'Cats have had are two overlapping five-game spans from 5/30-6/3 and 5/31-6/4, in which they scored only six runs...Their season-worst eight-game losing streak was from 5/29-6/5...Surprisingly the 'Cats are 2-3 over the past five games...They are batting .178 (27-for-152) as a team in that span, and .091 (2-for-22) with runners in scoring position...
ACE IN THE HOLE: RHP Gus Schlosser leads the league with 13 wins this season despite taking a no-decision in the Hillcats 3-2 win yesterday...The 'Cats are now 16-8 when Schlosser starts...Schlosser has been limited to just five innings in each of his last five starts, yet still leads the league in innings pitched (154.1)...The last time he went past five, he threw a complete game shutout against Potomac on July 23...Currently ranks fourth in ERA (3.09), second in strikeouts (129), tied for third in WHIP (1.09), fourth in average against (.245), and third in lowest BB/9 IP ratio (1.57)...
TREY FOR SCHLE': C Braeden Schlehuber went 1-for-3 yesterday with a triple, his fourth of the season...He is now tied for the most on the team with SS Nick Ahmed and 2B Tommy La Stella...Prior to this season, he had only one triple in four professional seasons...Adding to the catcher's exhaustion on the basepaths yesterday, he legged out a three base error in the ninth after the centerfielder dropped his fly ball in left-center...Schlehuber ended up scoring the winning run later in the inning...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Steve McCray was selected in the 16th round in 2010 out of University of Tennessee...Drafted in the 34th round in 2006 by Tampa Bay but went to Young Harris College...Drafted in the 50th round in 2007 by St. Louis, but stayed in school...Led Young Harris College to first ever NJCAA World Series in 2007...Prior to 2009, transferred to University of Tennessee...Spent last two seasons in Rookie-Level Great Falls...Compiled 9-6 record with a 3.68 ERA in 34 games (15 starts)...Recorded two saves in his first season with 92 strikeouts to 32 walks...He is 6-3 this season with a 3.83 ERA in 22 games, 14 starts for the Dash...In four appearances, two starts, vs Lynchburg, he is 1-1 with a 6.14 ERA...Gave up six runs, five earned, on seven hits in five innings against Lynchburg last time (7/7), arguably his worst start of the season...
