Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
SIOUX FALLS, SD - A huge third period and big effort from goalie Noah Giesbrecht kept the Muskegon Lumberjacks on their recent roll.
Christophe Fillion and AJ Hodges scored goals 1:06 apart midway through the third period, and Giesbrecht made 26 saves as the Lumberjacks skated past host Sioux Falls 4-2 for their fifth straight win.
Muskegon (5-4) will look to make it six straight Saturday night at Sioux Falls.
The win Friday night at Denny Sanford Premier Center moves the Lumberjacks up to 10 points, just three behind Eastern-Conference leading Chicago.
The Lumberjacks struck first 17:41 into the first period thanks to Tanner Edwards' third goal of the season. He was parked to the left side of the net and one-timed a nifty backhand pass from Alex Gaffney into the net for a 1-0 lead over the defending Clark Cup champions.
Sioux Falls (2-5) though responded a minute and a half later, as Brenden Olson notched his second goal of the season to knot the game up at 1-all.
The host Stampede took a 2-1 lead 6:38 into the second period when Isaac Henkemeyer-Howe beat Giesbrecht for his second of the season.
Grant Adams made the goal stand up until Fillion and Hodges struck for the game-tying and game-winning goals, respectively.
Fillion's goal came via the power-play from Harrison Roy and Danil Gushchin. Hodges was able to break free down the right side of the attacking zone and fired a low shot to the far side of the net.
Giesbrecht, who made many good saves to stymie Sioux Falls on its two power-play chances, got the best of the Stampede the rest of the way.
Edwards scored his second of the night and fourth of the season with 41 seconds left into an empty net to secure the win.
Muskegon outshot the Stampede 31-28 and finished 1-for-4 with the man advantage.
Alex Konovalov recorded his team-leading seventh assist on Edwards' first goal of the night.
