Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, Michigan - The Lumberjacks just showed the USHL that they will not back down from any challenge as they make a furious comeback and stun the visiting Chicago Steel in overtime, 4-3.
The Steel (5-2-0, 10 points) controlled the opening period from the puck drop as Forward Thomas Ebbing scored just 1:01 into the contest when he banked the shot in off of Goaltender Kevin Lindkoug's back. Shortly after at the 4:41 mark, the Steel made it 2-0 thanks to Forward McKenzie MacEachern, and then Forward Christian Heil netted a goal through Lindskoug's five-hole to make it 3-0 Steel at the 15:01 mark.
After the first period, the Lumberjacks (6-0-1, 13 points) took control as they got on the board at the 14:30 mark of the second period from Forward Adam Gilmour. The game remained the same until around the halfway point of the third period when Defenseman Carter Foguth wristed a goal past Steel goalie, Alex Sakellaropoulos, to make it a 3-2 game. Then, when the Lumberjacks needed it the most, they tallied the equalizer with 29 seconds left as Forward Ben Foster went top shelf past Sakellaropoulos to tie the game 3-3. The Lumberjacks then capped it off in overtime with 1:15 to go thanks to a goal from Forward Max Shuart on a nice pass from fellow teammate, Chad McDonald, to cap off the comeback victory.
The Lumberjacks outshot the Steel 45-37, and Goaltender Kevin Lindskoug stopped 34 of 37 shots. Forward Chad McDonald led the Lumberjacks with two points (both assists) in the comeback victory.
The Lumberjacks hit the road tomorrow night for the second game of a home-and-home series against the Chicago Steel at 8:00 pm. The Lumberjacks will be back at home next Friday and Saturday nights, respectively, against the Waterloo Blackhawks and Green Bay Gamblers. Puck drop is at 7:15 pm for both games, and you can purchase your individual tickets by visiting www.muskegonlumberjacks.com or calling (231) 724-JACK (5225).
