Lumberjacks Shut Down Cedar Rapids at Home 3-0

MUSKEGON, Michigan (December 8th) - The night belonged to Muskegon Lumberjacks Goaltender Jordan Uhelski as he and the rest of the Lumberjacks defense shut down the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders offense for a 3-0 victory tonight at the L.C. Walker Arena.

The first period featured no goals being scored as Uhelski (3-1-0) and Cedar Rapids Goaltender Steve Michalek (1-2-1) both stopped seven shots in the opening period.

In the middle frame, the Lumberjacks (14-7-2, 30 points) got the game's first goal from Forward Joe Cox at the 4:14 mark assisted by Cameron Darcy and Patrick Koudys to make it 1-0 Muskegon. The score remained the same into the second intermission as Uhelski continued his dominant performance stopping all 15 RoughRiders shots through two periods.

In the final period, the Lumberjacks added a key insurance goal at the 8:06 mark from Forward Riley Alferd as he slammed a rebound home past Michalek to make it 2-0 Muskegon. Forward Mason Jobst and Defenseman Carter Foguth assisted on the Alferd goal. The RoughRiders (8-11-3, 19 points) continued to have troubles on offense thanks to Uhelski and the Lumberjacks defense as they tallied no goals on 24 total shots in the game. To cap off the victory, Forward Cullen Hurley tallied an empty net goal with 14 seconds left assisted by Jobst to finish the 3-0 shutout victory.

The Lumberjacks outshot the RoughRiders, 30-24, in the game and Michalek stopped 27 of 30 shots in the loss. Joe Cox now has a team-leading 19 points on the season tallying his seventh goal, while Riley Alferd notched his third of the season and Cullen Hurley netted his fifth in the victory.

The Lumberjacks will hit the road this coming week for a pair of games against Eastern Conference rival the Indiana Ice at 7:05 pm, respectively, on Thursday and Friday nights. The Lumberjacks next home contest will be next Saturday night at 7:15 pm against Western Conference opponent the Fargo Force. Next Saturday features Star Wars Night, where the group Great Lakes Garrison will be in attendance dressed up in everyone's favorite Star Wars characters.
