July 29, 2009 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI.--- Set to ring-in all of the celebratory activity that marks their 50th Anniversary Season of pro hockey in this Lakeshore community, the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the International Hockey League, in conjunction with the IHL, have unveiled their regular season schedule for the upcoming 2009-10 season. Coming off a coveted climax to last campaign through advancing to the league Turner Cup Finals and the rebirth of the popular "Lumber-jacks" name, Muskegon will participate in a schedule consisting of 76-games spread over the period of time of some 27-weeks, spanning from opening night, Friday, October 16, 2009 through to the regular season finale of Saturday, April 17, 2010.
Once again, it is another exemplary game schedule for the Lumberjacks and their faithful fond following of fans in the golden anniversary year of the franchise. The new Lumberjacks schedule will accentuate and emphasize intense league rivalries and feature a veritable plethora of attractive home dates for all IHL West Michigan hockey fans. In fact, 33 of the 'Jacks 38-home dates are on the docket as either prime time weekend dates and attractive weekday dates.
Included in this season's Lumberjacks schedule of home dates, specifically, are 10-FRIDAY NIGHTS; 14-SATUR-DAY NIGHTS and 9-SUNDAY DATES. In addition, for a fifth consecutive year, the Lumberjacks will continue their special "EDUCATION DAY GAME." The date for this specific especially popular community active date is set for WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 18TH AT 10:30 AM at Walker Arena with one of the 'Jacks major rivals, the Port Huron Icehawks providing the opposition. Muskegon ousted Port Huron 4-games to 2 in the best-of-7 IHL Turner Cup semi-finals playoffs last spring.
Under the direction of head coach Rich Kromm, the Lumberjacks will officially usher-in year #50, and the second coming of coach Kromm, abroad when they travel to Flint to be hosted by the Generals on Friday night, October 16th at 7:30 pm.
The Lumberjacks home opening night will follow the very next night as they actually launch a season-longest 4-game home stand. Opening night to ring-in the 50th Anniversary Season celebration will be SATURDAY NIGHT, OCTOBER 17TH AT 7:00 PM when they rekindle rancor with the Bloomington Prairie Thunder.
Game times for the Lumberjacks home game action this season will, again, be 7:00 pm for all Wednesday, Friday and Saturday night appearances while all Sunday dates will remain at 5:00 pm.
The 2009-10 IHL has expended to 7-teams with the additions of the Dayton Gems and the return of the Quad City Mallards with the latter coming back to renew animosities with Muskegon as one of the fiercest, most intense archrivalries in league annals. Muskegon will lock anthers with the "Quad Squad" more frequently than any other member club in the league; a total of 14-bouts (8-home, 6-away).
Completing the team-by-team breakdown, the Lumberjacks will battle Flint 13-times (6-home, 7-away); Port Huron 13 (6-home, 7-away); Dayton 13 (7-home, 6-away); Bloomington 12-times (6-home, 6-away) and two-time reigning league kingpin Fort Wayne 11-times (5-home, 6-away).
The most ambitious months for Coach Kromm's crew will be both November and March when the 'Jacks confront the daunting task of 13-games. The Lumberjacks will play their most home games in February when they make 8-Walker Arena appearances. The "Golden Anniversary Boys" will see action for 12-games each in December, January and February.
There will be 9-times during the regular season in which the 'Jacks will be faced with the rigorous regimen of 3-games in 3-days / nights. On another 4-occasions, they will have playing weeks consisting of 4-games in 5-days / nights.
Also with today's announcement, the Lumberjacks have revealed their brief two-games' pre-season schedule with both clashes representing last season's Turner Cup Finals revisited. The Lumberjacks will engage in combat in the form of a 2-game home-and-home series with Fort Wayne. Muskegon will journey to Indiana to be guested by the K's on Friday night, October 9th before returning home for their lone pre-season appearance at Walker Arena the following night, Saturday, October 10th at 7:00 pm.
