Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - Behind four RBIs from Kevin Patterson, the Lansing Lugnuts (32-29, 79-51) became the winningest team in franchise history with a 5-1 victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps (34-29, 65-68) on Monday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.
With their 79th win of the season, the 2012 Lugnuts broke the franchise record for wins in a season, previously set at 78 in 2007.
The Lugs had previously set team records for victories to start the season (seven) and wins in the first half (47).
Lansing's offense pounded out 10 hits for the second consecutive night, powered by its big left-handed hitting DH. Patterson smashed his 18th home run of the year, a three-run blast in the bottom of the first, to set the tone.
The slugger added an RBI double off the center field wall two innings later, and the Lugnuts never looked back.
Aiding the cause, Nick Baligod reached base three times and smacked a pair of doubles; Andy Fermin delivered three hits in four at-bats and scored once; and Chris Hawkins went 2-for4 with two runs scored.
Lansing starter Justin Nicolino (Win, 10-4) allowed just one unearned run in five innings of work while giving up three hits, walking a pair and striking out two.
Tim Brechbuehler tossed two scoreless innings in his Midwest League debut, Aleson Escalante pitched a perfect eighth, and Ajay Meyer set the side down in order in the ninth to finish off the record-breaking victory.
TinCaps starter Colin Rea (Loss, 5-9) surrendered nine hits in five innings while giving up five runs, walking two and striking out none.
The finale of the four-game series is Tuesday, August 28th at 7:05 p.m. Lansing will send Anthony DeSclafani (10-3, 3.17) to the mound against Fort Wayne right-hander Ruben Mejia (2-6, 4.17). Tuesday night is a Dollar Deal Day featuring one dollar hot dogs, 16 oz. fountain drinks and ice cream sandwiches. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the Cooley Law School Stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
