Lansing Lugnuts News Release

LANSING, Mich. - The Lansing Lugnuts, Class-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, announced their 2009 Opening Day roster today and will hold their annual "Meet the Team" event at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, at Oldsmobile Park.

The Opening Day roster is highlighted by outfielder Kenny Wilson, the Blue Jays' 2nd round pick in the 2008 June Amateur Draft. Infielders Mark Sobolewski (4th round) and Tyler Pastornicky (5th round) and outfielder Markus Brisker (6th round) join Wilson in Lansing to comprise a lineup brimming with potential, though Sobolewski will start the season on the disabled list.

Outfielder Yohermyn Chavez returns after spending the 2008 season in Lansing, with sluggers Mike McDade (60 games) and Jon Talley (1 game) also relatively familiar with Oldsmobile Park. Rounding out the position players will be catchers Chris House, Antonio Jimenez and Jon Talley, infielders Jon Del Campo, Balbino Fuenmayor, Bryan Kervin and Justin McClanahan, and outfielder Brian Van Kirk.

The Lugnuts' 2009 pitching corps will feature more than a few newcomers to the mid-Michigan region, with only Michael Barbara, Frank Gailey and Ryan Koch having prior experience in Lansing. New hurlers include right-handers Henderson Alvarez, Jonas Cuotto, Matt Daly and 6'7 Josh Wells, and left-handers John Anderson, Chuck Huggins, Yorman Mayora, Hunter Moody and Jared Potts.

"This is the only opportunity for our fans to meet the new Lugnuts before the season starts," said Lugnuts General Manager Patrick Day. "This year will be even more special because we're holding it in The Clubhouse, our upscale suite-level lounge."

"Meet the Team" will feature the official introduction of each member of the roster and the coaching staff. Afterward, fans will have an opportunity to mingle with the new Lugnuts and sample selections from the new appetizer menu.

Prior to the event, a special pre-party will be held for Lugnuts Diamond Club members, where they will have the first chance to meet the team. The pre-party will begin at 6:00 p.m.

The Lugnuts will open the 2009 season with a Labatt Blue Light Thirsty Thursday on April 9 at 7:05 p.m. at Oldsmobile Park against the Fort Wayne TinCaps. LAFCU Fireworks will follow the game. Tickets to any game in the Lugnuts' 2009 home schedule, including April 16's Crosstown Showdown against Michigan State presented by Auto-Owners Insurance, are available for purchase at the Oldsmobile Park box office and online at www.lansinglugnuts.com.
