Lubbock Renegades News Release
LUBBOCK, TX: December 5, 2007 - The Lubbock Renegades of arenafootball2 (af2) continued building their 2008 roster, as the af2 assigned returning defensive back Corey White to the Renegades.
Renegades fans might not recall Corey White on the roster last season, but that is very understandable. The 6'0" 170-pound Lubbock native began last season with the Amarillo Dusters and played seven games before eventually joining the Renegades for the final game of the regular season. With the Dusters last season, White had 30.5 tackles (28 solo), a pair of interceptions, seven pass break-ups, a touchdown, forced fumble and a fumble recovery. White registered 4.5 tackles (4 solo) against Oklahoma City in his only appearance with the Renegades. His combined 2007 totals calculated to 35 tackles (32 solo), two interceptions and 11 pass breakups in eight games. The 2007 season was White's second season in the af2. He appeared with Amarillo in 2006 as a two-way player and finished with 7.5 tackles (6 solo) and four pass breakups on defense, and had three yards rushing and a 20-yard touchdown reception for his only catch while on the offensive side of the ball. In two seasons of af2 play, White has combined for 42.5 tackles (34 solo) and two interceptions in 12 games played.
White is a product of Lubbock's Estacado High School, and graduated in 2001 under the name Corey Morrison. He played quarterback for Estacado under legendary coach Louis Kelly. White played collegiately from 2002-2005 at Eastern New Mexico University and excelled as a defensive back and return specialist. He was a two-time All-Lone Star Conference South selection (2004,2005) and left ranking second on ENMU's all-time list for kickoff return yards (1,047) and attempts (45). White also tied a school record in 2004 with a 100-yard kickoff return for a score. On defense, White ranks third on the program's all-time list for interceptions with five.
The addition of White to the 2008 Renegades roster marks three players assigned to the club. He joins Chad Jackson (WR/DB) and Ronald Redmond (OL/DL) on the Renegades roster. Media members looking to interview Blackshear or seeking additional information in regards to White's addition may contact Chris Due at 806-744-5858.
The Renegades have concluded their inaugural 2007 campaign and are now preparing for the 2008 season. Season ticket and corporate sponsorship information for the 2008 season is available by contacting the Renegades office at (806) 744-5858. Lubbock kicks off their second season on April 5th in Austin before hosting Oklahoma City for their home opener on April 12th at City Bank Coliseum.
