Charleston Lowgators News Release

CHARLESTON, S.C. (February 6) Jason Miskiri led five Lowgators in double-digits with 17 points to help Charleston to a 92-84 victory over the Asheville Altitude at the North Charleston Coliseum on Friday night. The contest ended a three-game win streak for the Altitude and stopped a two-game losing skid for the Lowgators.

After a seesaw battle in the first half, Charleston used an 11-4 run at the beginning of the third quarter and never looked back. The Lowgators (17-8) led by as many as 13 late in the fourth quarter thanks to the outstanding play of their bench.

"I thought the non-starters really played well in the second half after struggling in the first half," coach Doug Marty said. "We also made adjustments down low because they were beating us up on the glass."

Asheville (9-12) dominated the paint early on with Brandon Kurtz providing 8 points and 6 rebounds in 11 minutes off the bench before dislocating his pinky. He did not return and went to the hospital for surgery immediately after the injury occurred in the second period. Kurtz is expected to miss significant time.

Altitude coach Joey Meyer said, "I feel bad for Brandon because he was really playing well the last week or two. His injury and our inability to make free-throws really hurt us. I have to give (Charleston) credit because they were very active and created some problems for us."

Despite losing Kurtz, Asheville played well in the first half and led the contest 45-39 with 1:02 remaining in the second quarter. However, the momentum swung as the Lowgators ripped off a 7-0 run to end the period as Ime Udoka hit a three-pointer at the buzzer.

Asheville's Desmond Penigar, the NBDL's leading scorer, was held to 9 points on 4 of 12 from the field. Rusty LaRue, who is expected to provide an offensive spark for the Altitude had 2 points. Kris Lang led the visitors with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Udoka ended the night with 15 points for Charleston and Miskiri added 8 assists to go along with his team-high 17. Hiram Fuller had 10 rebounds off the bench and Karim Shabazz swatted a game-high five blocked shots.

Both teams play on Saturday evening, as Charleston travels to Fayetteville and Asheville hosts Fayetteville.
