Charleston Lowgators News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (November 1, 2002) – The North Charleston Lowgators will begin defense of their regular season title as training camp opens Sunday, November 3 at 10 a.m. at The Citadel. The Lowgators training camp will continue through Thursday, November 14. Both The Citadel and Sterrett Hall (Old Naval Base) will host practices throughout the 12-day training camp. A total of 24 players will begin their quest to make it on the final Lowgators roster.

"The talent level is extremely high this season," said Lowgators Head Coach Doug Marty. "The on-court battles could go down to the final cuts as each position is very deep. It should make for an intense camp."

The Lowgators selected former NBA guard Corey Benjamin with their first round pick in the 2002 NBDL Draft on Halloween night. The Lowgators added 14 players to their 24-man roster in the draft.

A minimum of one allocation player is guaranteed a spot on each team's final roster of 10 players. First roster cuts will be made on November 6th. By November 14th, each team will have a 10-man roster, which must be maintained throughout the season.

The North Charleston Lowgators open the 2002-03 NBDL season Friday, November 15, 2002 on the road against the Mobile Revelers at the Mobile Civic Center. The Lowgators home opener is a rematch of last year's NBDL Finals on Sunday, November 17 against the defending champion Greenville Groove at the North Charleston Coliseum.
