Charleston Lowgators News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (January 1) – The North Charleston Lowgators defeated the Mobile Revelers 90-84 on Wednesday night at the North Charleston Coliseum. Corey Benjamin had 27 points to pace the home team.

The Lowgators blew a 12 point lead in the third quarter but were able to knock down 10 of 12 free-throws in the last 2:30 to hang on for the win. Benjamin had 8 points in the period, while Sedric Webber had 7 to hold off the Mobile rally.

"Corey Benjamin had a great game. He has the ability to do that every night. Corey has to get himself ready to play every game. He's a real catalyst on both ends of the court," Lowgators coach Doug Marty said.

Both teams traded baskets in the first quarter with the score tied at 22 after ten minutes of play. The Lowgators jumped ahead in the second frame and led by six at halftime at 46-40. North Charleston built a 12 point advantage on a Benjamin three-pointer in the third period but Mobile went on a 12-0 run to tie the game at 59.

There were four more ties until the Lowgators went up 72-70 on a Damone Brown jumper with 5:46 remaining. Mobile would get no closer than one as they dropped their third game against the Lowgators this season. The Revelers were led by Rafer Alston's 19 points and 13 assists. Sedric Webber added 21 for North Charleston.

The Lowgators (10-9) will host Mobile (8-10) again on Friday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.
