Charleston Lowgators News Release

CHARLESTON, S.C. (December 7) The Charleston Lowgators kept the Columbus Riverdragons winless as they prevailed 94-70 at the North Charleston Coliseum on Sunday evening. The victory was Charleston's third in a row.

The Lowgators (3-2) held the Riverdragons to 26 second-half points and outscored Columbus 26-11 in the third quarter before coasting home for the win. Charleston broke a 37-37 tie midway through the second quarter and led the rest of the way.

"It was by far our best defensive effort of the season. I liked how we made an adjustment in the second half with our defensive rotation and (Jason) Miskiri gave us a lift off the bench. It was a solid win," said Lowgators head coach Doug Marty.

The game's statistics were just as lopsided as they score. Columbus (0-6) shot seven free-throws during the entire contest and turned the ball over 26 times. The Lowgators took 34 charity tosses and only had 16 miscues.

Riverdragons head coach Jeff Malone said, "They put a lot of pressure on us in the third quarter, that's what killed us. We also played real soft. I guess we are going to have to go shopping and get some toughness."

Alpha Bangura led five Lowgators in double-digits with 16 points. Karim Shabazz added 13 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Columbus swingman Erron Maxey led all scorers with 21 points. Ezra Williams, the only other Riverdragon in double-digits, chipped in with 12 off the bench. Charleston hosts Roanoke on Thursday at 7 p.m. Columbus travels to Asheville on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
