Charleston Lowgators News Release

CHARLESTON, S.C. (January 23) Jason Miskiri hit a go-ahead three-pointer with 1.4 seconds remaining in double-overtime to give the Charleston Lowgators a 108-107 victory against the Huntsville Flight at the North Charleston Coliseum on Friday night.

The Lowgators received the opportunity to win the game after Rick Apodaca, an 88% free-throw shooter, missed both charity attempts after being fouled intentionally with 8.3 seconds left. Carl English grabbed the rebound and drove to his own three-point arc and dished it off to Miskiri, who hit seven threes on the night.

"I was getting good looks at the basket all night and when Carl gave me the ball I knew we needed a big shot," said an excited Miskiri.

The Flight had a last second shot opportunity from Mateen Cleaves that spun in and out to end the game.

The seesaw battle included 11 lead changes and ten ties. The Lowgators were up by as many as 13 in the first half but saw their lead turn into a one point deficit at halftime. Charleston led 64-62 going into the fourth quarter and the game was deadlocked at 87 at the end of regulation.

Both teams scored six points each in the first overtime with both failing to capitalize on several last second chances to win. Tierre Brown missed two shots with under 10 seconds remaining for the Lowgators and Rod Grizzard missed a buzzer beater for the Flight.

"First of all, I give the Huntsville Flight a lot of credit tonight." Lowgators coach Doug Marty said. "We got the last bounce and picked up a win where everyone contributed in different ways. We played with so much heart and we never gave up."

Charleston was lead by Alpha Bangura's 27 points and Jason Miskiri finished with 25.

Huntsville coach Ralph Lewis said, "Charleston played a great game tonight and they executed and made plays down the stretch. We didn't."

The Flight were led by Mateen Cleaves' 23 points. They had three players, Ike Nwanko, Marcus Fleming and Rodney Bias, reach double figures in the rebounding column, an NBDL record. Huntsville also broke the record for team rebounds with 69 and defensive rebounds snagging 44.

Other records shattered in the contest included most combined rebounds, combined field goals and combined field goal attempts.
