Charleston Lowgators News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (November 7, 2002) - On Thursday night at the North Charleston Coliseum, Roanoke's Mikki Moore proved why he was the number one overall pick of the NBDL Draft. The 6-foot-11, 225 pound center finished with a game-high 20 points as the Roanoke Dazzle defeated the North Charleston Lowgators 81-69 in the first preseason game of the season.
Moore, a former Nebraska Cornhusker, spent the last five seasons playing in the National Basketball Association with the Detroit Pistons. Prior to the NBA, he spent time playing overseas in Papagou, Greece and with the Ft. Wayne Fury of the CBA, under Dazzle head coach Kent Davison.
Roanoke, connecting on 52 percent (28-54) from the floor for the night, led the Lowgators at the half by a score of 37-35 and finished up strong to win the game.
Tierre Brown and Corey Benjamin led the Lowgators balanced attack with 13 and 12 points, respectively. The Lowgators finished the night shooting 40 percent (23-of-58) from the floor.
Following the game, Lowgators Head Coach Doug Marty gave the team mixed reviews. "With Nate Green and David Dixon sitting out tonight's game to heal minor injuries, it gave Coach Upshaw and I the opportunity to get a look at some other players. While I wasn't pleased with the outcome, the team did battle throughout the game. The poor shooting hurt us from outset, however. We have some work to do but we will be ready for Fayetteville on November 12."
Game Notes:
Returning Lowgators Sedric Webber and Neil Edwards chipped in with 9 and 7 points, respectively....Jamal Robinson finished with 7 points and Cory Alexander, Terrence Shannon, Cypheus Bunton, Jelani Gardner and Mike King each finished with 6 points for the Dazzle.
