Louisville City FC News Release
LOUISVILLE - Louisville City FC heads into the offseason break with 16 of 20 returning players from the 2017 team that claimed the USL Cup and now do so with the first signing of the offseason in defender Pat McMahon. Per club policy, terms of the contract will not be released.
McMahon comes to LouCity after spending the 2016 & 2017 seasons with FC Cincinnati in the USL, totaling over 30 games played and nearly 2400 minutes across all competitions in that span. Prior to his time with FCC, McMahon held down the line for two years in Rochester, helping guide the Rhinos to a 2015 USL Cup victory, a 2-1 win in extra time over L.A. Galaxy II in which he featured for the full 120 minutes. A familiar foe, McMahon also tallied a goal against LouCity in 2016. He joins defenders Paco Craig, Kyle Smith, and Sean Totsch.
"I'm excited - obviously the fans compare to where I've been the last four years. There's good support here. The club is run well and I'm excited about that," said McMahon. "Coming off a league win and winning the playoffs - I'd love to do that again! I feel excited to get going and get down there and start work during the preseason."
A native of Bolingbrook, Illinois, McMahon was a four-year starter for the UIC Flames (Horizon League), finishing his career having started every match for the Flames, extending the school-record consecutive starts streak to 85. Adding to his time with UIC, McMahon also featured for USL PDL clubs West Michigan Edge (2005), Kalamazoo Kingdom (2006), and Chicago Fire Premier (2008).
"Head coach James O'Connor said it was like a family. You're with a group of guys, you work hard together, and it's very demanding but those are the situations that get the most out of people. It's how everyone comes together as a team to pull in the same direction," said the defender. "On the field and off the field, it's about creating a winning mentality as a group. I think that's why he's been so successful with Louisville - now with us - but I'm looking forward to it once I get down there."
Preseason for the "Boys in Purple" will commence on February 5 with McMahon expected to arrive in January.
