
Louisiana Loses Final Game Of Season

LAFAYETTE, LA - The Louisiana IceGators (16-40) took to the ice for the last time in the 2010-11 season. Louisiana traveled to Columbus to end the season against the Columbus Cottonmouths (29-27). The âGators were slow to start and could not comeback. Louisiana loses 6-3.
Louisiana opened the first period sluggishly. It took the âGators more than eight minutes to get their first shot on of two shots on goal. On the other hand, Columbus took it to the IceGators right away. In the first eight minutes the Cottonmouths had the first six shots on goal and scored when Levi Lind (COL) scored his 4th goal of the season. Columbus increased their lead to 2-0 when Brett Hammond (COL) scored his 13th goal of the season after a Tobias Karlsson (LOU) tripping penalty.
The second period began very differently than the first period. The Cottonmouths got the first shot on goal 1:48 into the period but Louisiana reeled off five consecutive shots on goal. With 14:00 remaining in the period, Jason Hill (LOU) cut the Cottonmouth lead in half. More than two minutes later, Jesse Cole (COL) increased the Cottonmouth's lead to 3-1 when he scored his 29th goal of the season. With 7:53 left in the second period, Cole scored his second goal of the game and increased the Cottonmouth lead to 3 goals. Beau McLaughlin (LOU) scored his 33rd goal of the season with 4:26 cutting the Columbus lead to 4-2. The Cottonmouths quickly responded, when Cole scored his third goal of the game.
Entering the third period Louisiana found themselves down 5-2. Three minutes into the period Cameron Sault (LOU) scored a short-handed goal to put the âGators down by two goals. Columbus' Jordan Braid (COL) scored an empty net goal to clinch the 6-3 victory for the Cottonmouths.
"Tonight we got out played in the first period and just couldn't rebound," replied IceGators Head Coach Kevin Kaminski. "You can't let that happen if you want to win."
