Louisiana IceGators News Release
LAFAYETTE, LA - The Louisiana IceGators (7-24) went on the road to take on the newest team in the Southern Professional Hockey League, Augusta Riverhawks (15-13). This was also the first time that these teams ever met and the Riverhawks came out on top and prolonged the IceGators losing streak, 5-0.
The first period was a period of streaks. Each team put streaks of three or four shots on goal together at a time. Less than ten minutes into the game, the 'Gators made the first mistake as Ryan Fultz was called for tripping. Louisiana's penalty kill unit was up to the task and successfully killed the penalty. With 2:20 left in the period, the Riverhawks were the first team to strike. Aaron Boyer (AUG) scored the first goal of the game and his first goal of the season.
The second period started with the Riverhawks up 1-0. With 16:43 on the clock, Paul DAgostino (LOU) was caught hooking and was sent to the penalty box. The Riverhawks got three shots on goal during the power play and the third shot by Jason Price (AUG) slipped past Archie Henderson, IceGators' goalie, to put the Riverhawks up 2-0. The goal was the third in a streak of eight shots on goal.
The IceGators entered the third period trailing the Riverhawks 2-0 and needing to create some offense quickly. Augusta began the period getting the first four shots on goal. The 'Gators caught their first break of the period when Curtis Megginson (AUG) was called for tripping; however, the 'Gators were unable to capitalize on the power play. When Megginson got out of the penalty box, it didn't take Augusta long to score, in fact 26 seconds later Branden Kosolofsky (AUG) scored and put the Riverhawks up 3-0. Augusta added another insurance goal with 7:47 left in the game when Jason Dolgy (AUG) scored his first goal of the season. About two minutes later, Dolgy added his second goal of the game and the season. This last insurance goal put the Riverhawks up 5-0.
"This is frustrating," answered a disgusted IceGators Head Coach, Kevin Kaminski. "We were still caught up on the other night when we let that game slip away from us. This group of guys will have to put these games and all the other loses behind them and move forward. We can only do something about tomorrow's game."
The 'Gators stay on the road for two more games. The 'Gators travel north for two games against the Knoxville IceBears on January 7th and 8th. Don't miss your chance to bring a group to the game and take advantage of the 10 for 10 program. Groups of 10 can purchase tickets for $10. Call (337) 704-4423 for great season ticket and mini package opportunities, as well as the 10 for 10 program.
