RiverHawks Throttle Ice Gators 5-0

The Augusta RiverHawks turned in a dominating performance Thursday night at the James Brown Arena as they defeated the Louisiana Ice Gators 5-0. RiverHawks' goaltender Jon Olthuis made 21 saves for his first career shutout and newly signed forward Jason Dolgy scored two short-handed goals in the third period to preserve the victory.

The win is the RiverHawks' fourth in their past five games and moves them to within two points of the third place in the SPHL. The loss was the Ice Gators' 14th in a row and leaves them 10 points back of a playoff spot.

RiverHawks' forward Lucas Labelle extended his scoring streak to seven games with an assist in the first period.

The RiverHawks opened the scoring in the first period as Aaron Boyer tallied his first of the season, converting a nice pass from Labelle on an odd-man rush.

In the second period the RiverHawks extended the lead to two goals. Forward Egor Mironov fired a snap shot that was stopped by Ice Gators' goaltender Archie Henderson, however the rebound went straight to Jason Price who pounded it into the back of the net.

The third period was all RiverHawks as they scored two goals, including one from Branden Kosolofsky as a centering pass from Aaron McGill bounced in off of his skate. Dolgy finished the game's scoring in the third period with his two short handed goals.

The RiverHawks are back in action at the James Brown Arena Saturday, January 8th the RiverHawks play the Fayetteville FireAntz. It is Patriots and Pucks: Saluting our Troops night.
