Louisiana IceGators News Release
LAFAYETTE, LA -The Louisiana IceGators (9-34) hit the ice on Saturday night coming off of a shutout of one of the top teams in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). Saturday they traveled to take on the Augusta Riverhawks (22-17) looking to continue the success but that didn't occur. The IceGators fell to the Riverhawks 10-3.
The game began with the two teams dropping the gloves two seconds into the game. Jason Hill (LOU) and Neil Graham (AUG) had some pent up frustration from the last meeting and they continued early in this game. With 15:32 left in the period, Augusta struck first when Branden Kosolofsky (AUG) scored his ninth goal of the season. Louisiana quickly responded when Robert Short (LOU) scored his first goal of the season with the IceGators. With the game tied at one the Riverhawks caught fire. Four minutes after the IceGators tied the game Egor Mironov (AUG) scored with help from Aaron McGill (AUG) and Lucas LaBelle (AUG). Matt Auffrey (AUG) scored with 5:00 minutes left in the period and put the Riverhawks up 3-1. With less than two minutes later Ryan Olidis scored and put the Riverhawks up 4-1 after the first period.
The second period didn't get any better for the IceGators. Beau McLaughlin (LOU) was called for high sticking 39 seconds into the period. Less than a minute later Auffrey scored his second goal of the game. A minute later Mironov scored his second goal of the game too. The troubles continued When Kosolofsky scored two goals back to back and capped off the hat trick at the 16:34 and 15:51 marks. Following the four goals Dennis Sicard (LOU), Marc Rechlicz (LOU) and Eric Tallent (LOU) were called for fighting with Curtis Megginson (AUG) and Drew Baker (AUG). Following all of the major penalties the IceGators were on a man disadvantage. The Riverhawks capitalized on the mistake and Luke Lucyk (AUG) scored and put the Riverhawks up 9-1. With less than nine minutes in the period Olidis scored his second goal of the game and finished the scoring for the Riverhawks.
The third period began with the IceGators down 10-1. The âGators began the period outshooting the Riverhawks 13-2 and made two of them count. CJ Tozzo (LOU) scored with 7:48 remaining in the game and McLaughlin scored 30 seconds later. McLaughlin capped off the night and made the final score 10-3.
"This was awful," answered IceGators Head Coach Kevin Kaminski. "Our guys can't get complaisant after getting one win. We will improve and play much better the rest of the season."
Louisiana returns home for three of the next four games. The âGators will be in the Dome on Friday, February 11 at 7:05 against the Pensacola Ice Flyers. Don't miss your chance to bring a group to the game and take advantage of the 10 for 10 program. Groups of 10 can purchase tickets for $10.
