LouCity Signs Versatile European Midfielder Thellufsen

Louisville City FC News Release
Louisville City FC has added to its midfield for the 2023 USL Championship season with the signing of Rasmus Thellufsen, a former Denmark youth international who most recently played in his home country's top league.
Thellufsen - pronounced TELL-uff-sin - will make an overseas move from Lyngby Boldklub, where he capped the 2021-2022 campaign by scoring three goals in the final two games. Those performances helped earn Lyngby promotion back to the Danish Superliga for its current season.
Terms of 25-year-old's LouCity contract, which is pending league and federation approval, were not disclosed.
"We are excited to be able to welcome Rasmus to Louisville City," said coach Danny Cruz. "After going through our video analysis, data analysis and interviews with him we came away impressed.
"He is a player that is extremely versatile and has played both out wide and centrally at a high level in Denmark. He brings quality with the ball at his feet as well as good size. We are looking forward to getting him to Louisville and ready to begin integrating him into the group."
Thellufsen, who represented Denmark at the U-16 through U-21 levels, debuted professionally for Superliga club AaB Fodbold in 2016. He made the move to Lyngby in 2020, numbering six goals in 32 appearances last season as the club progressed out of the Danish second tier.
"My agent told me about the club, and then I had a good talk with Danny," Thellufsen said of joining LouCity. "I was at a point in my life when I would try a new experience, and it's not often you get the opportunity to go to America. I felt like it was the right time to try something new, and I'm excited about it.
"I like to create space for my teammates and create chances - make assists, score goals. I'm offensive-minded and like to work hard. I just love to play the game."
Thellufsen marks LouCity's second new offseason signing, joining midfielder Dylan Mares, who scored 10 goals last year for the USL Championship's El Paso Locomotive FC. City also returns a league-record 22 players from a squad that last year set club records for wins (22) and points earned (72).
The reigning Eastern Conference champions start their 2023 season March 11 at Orange County SC before a March 25 home opener against El Paso. Season, group and premium tickets are on sale now by visiting LouCity.com/tickets or calling (502) LOU-CITY during regular business hours.
