Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced today it had signed forward Romario Williams, previously of New Mexico United. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.
"I am truly excited for this upcoming season and looking forward to being a part of the Switchbacks family," said Williams. "The club has a strong fan base and has laid a solid foundation over the years and I'm just happy to be able to help this talented group of players in the best way I can."
Williams, 28, joins the Switchbacks after signing with New Mexico United in July 2022, where he earned one goal across ten appearances. Previous to playing for New Mexico, Williams played abroad, making ten appearances - and earning another three goals - across the 2021 and 2022 seasons with Qadsia SC of the Kuwait Premier League. Before that he played with Al Ittihad of the Egyptian Premier League, where he earned five goals in 23 appearances.
Williams has had a prolific goal- scoring career, and in the last eight years of his career has spent time in Major League Soccer and in the USL Championship. The veteran striker has over 50 goals to his name both domestic and abroad, as well as six goals with Jamaica's various national teams.
Before professional play, Williams earned 18 goals in 51 appearances at the University of Central Florida, earning himself first-team all conference honors, and the third overall draft pick by Montreal Impact in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft.
Internationally, Williams made his first appearance for Jamaica's National U17 team. He also made appearances for the U23 team, and made his first senior team appearance for the Reggae Boyz in 2016 in a qualifying win over Suriname in the Caribbean Cup.
"Romario is a player that has a fifteen to twenty goal potential in this league and has a lot of different high level experiences," said GM and Head Coach Brendan Burke. "He is a player we are very happy to be adding to our attacking core for the next few years with this deal."
