LouCity Signs Local Goalkeeper Troutman to First Pro Contract
March 6, 2024 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Louisville City FC News Release
Ryan Troutman, a Trinity High School graduate who played at both the universities of Louisville and Kentucky, will appropriately enough begin his pro career at home.
Louisville City FC signed the goalkeeper to his first contract, the club announced Wednesday, with the deal pending league and federation approval.
"We had a look at a lot of goalkeepers this preseason, as we wanted to make sure that we brought someone in that would be a good fit for our group," said LouCity's head coach, Danny Cruz. "Ryan did an excellent job during his time here in preseason, and we are happy that we have been able to finalize our goalkeeping group. He is a player that has a lot of potential and will continue to push the group to be at their best every day."
Troutman, 23, was a First Team All-State selection at Trinity, where he returned last fall to work as an assistant coach.
Following a freshman year at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, Troutman transferred to Kentucky. He made 13 appearances for the Wildcats, posting a record of 10-1-2.
Once to Louisville, Troutman started 12 times in 2022, keeping a 0.98 goals-against average. He missed his final college season in 2023 due to injury before joining LouCity on trial this preseason.
"I'm excited to be joining my hometown club to start my professional career," Troutman said. "Since Louisville City started 10 seasons ago, it has been a dream of mine to play here. Being able to represent this city and this club is truly something special. I can't wait to get to work and help bring more trophies to the club."
Troutman joins a LouCity goalkeeping corps that features Damian Las, a U.S. youth international on loan from Major League Soccer's Austin FC, and Danny Faundez, who's back for a third year in purple.
"Ryan is a welcome addition to our goalkeeper group, and I look forward to working with him," said the club's goalkeepers coach, Scott Budnick. "He is good with his feet, has a solid positional sense and is a nice shot-stopper. Ryan has trained well with Damian and Danny during his time with us and will add depth to our position group moving forward."
LouCity's preparing for a March 16 start to its 10th anniversary season, which kicks off at El Paso Locomotive FC. The club's home opener falls a week later on Saturday, March 23.
Fans can see LouCity's final preseason tune-up this Saturday at Lynn Family Stadium. Tickets are on sale now at LouCity.com or by calling (502) LOU-CITY for a 4 p.m. Saturday matchup with USL League One's Knoxville SC.
