LOS ANGELES -- Lineman Greg Krause signed a free agent contract with the Los Angeles Avengers, head coach Ed Hodgkiss announced today.
Krause (6-foot-4, 295 pounds), a veteran who was with the Orlando Predators for the past three seasons, inked a two-year deal that will keep him in Los Angeles through the 2008 season.
Although he has made a name for himself playing primarily on the offensive side of the football, Krause had an impact defensively for the Predators, posting 13.5 career tackles. He also contributed on special teams, forcing a fumble while covering a kickoff and recovering the loose ball for an Orlando touchdown in a game against New Orleans in 2004.
Krause began his Arena Football career in 2003, playing for the Mohegan Wolves of arenafootball2. He moved up to the Arena Football League in 2004, making the roster of the Indiana Firebirds, who later traded him to Orlando.
Following the 1999 NFL Draft, Krause was signed by the Cincinnati Bengals and spent some time in their training camp.
Krause was a four-year starter at left guard for the University of New Hampshire. In 1997, he was a member of "The Chain Gang," which is considered to be one of the best offensive lines to ever play for the Wildcats.
Born on April, 4, 1976, Krause attended West High School (Manchester, N.H.), where he was a standout on the football and track & field teams.
In addition to playing in the AFL, Krause also owns and operates Gym USA in Goffstown, N.H.
The Avengers' eighth season of play in the AFL will kick off this winter.
