Loons Fly South Looking to Extend Unbeaten Run
September 25, 2015 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
Minnesota United FC News Release
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Friday, September 25, 2015) -- Minnesota United (7W-5T-2L, 26pts.) is coming off a 0-0 draw with the League-leading New York Cosmos and will look to get back on the scoresheet on Saturday in a matchup with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers (5W-5T-3L, 20pts.). The match is set to kickoff at 6:30 CDT - fans can watch all the action on KSTC45-TV and ESPN3.
Every match at this stage of the season is important. Each point can make a difference in qualifying for a playoff spot and earning a favorable matchup in the first round of the postseason. The Loons and Strikers both need a win on Saturday. Minnesota United is pushing to host a first-round match, but will need to win the Fall Season in order to achieve that goal. Currently sitting five points behind the Fall leader, three points on the road will go a long way with just six matches remaining.
Minnesota fell to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers earlier this year, conceding two goals with just 15 minutes left to play in a late spring matchup. The Loons have been better since that match, reversing the script and scoring late goals of their own. Minnesota United currently leads the NASL in goals scored in the final ten minutes of play.
The match on Saturday features two of the most attacking sides in the NASL. The Loons lead the league in goals scored with 42, while the Strikers were on the winning side of a 7-1 route of Indy Eleven just a few weeks ago.
United has just two matches away from home left in the season with four to play at NSC Stadium. It's a favorable schedule for the club, who will be looking to capture every available point and bring a streak with them into the postseason. Saturday's match kicks off at 6:30 p.m. CDT. Catch the match live on KSTC-45TV or join United for the official watch party at Ryan's Pub.
