Jackson Generals News Release
JACKSON, TENN. (June 11, 2013) - The Jackson Generals (27-34) were on the wrong side of a one-sided affair Tuesday afternoon, as the Chattanooga Lookouts (32-33) bounced back after two losses to win, 6-1. Chattanooga pitching allowed only five hits while the offense recorded three-run innings in the first and fifth to grab the rubber match of the series.
Anthony Fernandez (L, 3-2, 6.28) was coming off his best start of the season, but found trouble in the first inning. A walk and two hits, including an RBI double by Joc Pederson led to three runs for Chattanooga. Fernandez breezed through the next few innings but got into more trouble in the fifth, capped by a two-run homer from Miguel Rojas. Fernandez would go 4.2 innings, allowing six runs on five hits with a walk and a strikeout. The six runs would be plenty for the Lookouts as the Generals only had those five hits.
Jackson had trouble figuring out Chattanooga starter Ross Stripling. Stripling, who left in the sixth after a line drive hit his foot, went 5.2 innings. The right-hander gave up a run on four hits with four strikeouts. The one run came in the fourth inning when Julio Morban (1-3, K, HR, R, RBI) rocketed one to deep center for a solo home run. Leon Landry (2-4) and Steven Proscia (2-3, K) added multi-hit games in the losing cause. It was Proscia's first two-hit game since May 7th.
Both bullpens had some quality work. Stephen Kohlscheen (2.40), Stephen Schackleford (0.00), who made his Double-A debut, Andrew Kittredge (4.00) and Moises Hernandez (5.64) combined for 4.2 innings of scoreless baseball for Jackson. They kept it close, but Yimi Garcia pitched the eighth and ninth for Chattanooga and only gave up one hit.
Jackson will get a day off on Wednesday and be back in action on Thursday in Birmingham. Roenis Elias (2-6, 3.09) will start for the Generals, as the Barons will send Scott Snodgrass (7-4, 4.54) to the bump in the first game of the series.
