Huntsville Stars News Release

The Stars... The Stars are in their 29th season as a franchise. Prior to becoming part of the Milwaukee Brewers organization in 1999, the Stars were the Double-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics for 14 seasons. Prior to the start of the 2013 season, the Stars have won three Southern League Championships ('85, '94, '01).

Introducing: The Biscuits... The Montgomery Biscuits have been the Tampa Bay Rays Double-A Affiliate since 1999. This season, the Stars already took four out of five games against the Biscuits at Joe Davis Stadium in May while losing two out of the first three games at Riverwalk Stadium so far during this five-game set.

Rough night... With their 13-2 loss at the hands of the Montgomery Biscuits on Monday night, the Stars pitching staff gave up a season-high 19 hits and four homers. Prior to that offensive explosion, the Biscuits had only scored nine runs in the first three games of this season combined.

Baseball Prospectus... As the second ranked prospect in the Brewers organization (per MLB.com), Stars starting pitcher Taylor Jungmann has more than lived up to the hype over the last month. After a 1-4 start, Jungmann is 6-1 in his last seven starts, including a gem on Sunday night. The 23-year-old righty gave up just four hits and one unearned run in seven innings against the Biscuits for his fourth straight win and seventh straight quality start. Jungmann has now gone two straight starts (14 IP) without giving up an earned run.

Eliminated... With the Stars loss on Saturday, they have officially been eliminated from playoff contention in the Southern League North for the first half of the season. Also, the loss ensured that Huntsville would finish at .500 or below for the fourth consecutive half dating back to 2011. The last time the Stars finished above .500 was the first half of 2011 (37-33).

Designated Hitter... With their finale of a five-game series in Montgomery on Tuesday, the Stars are finishing up a stretch of 13-straight games with the designated hitter. After their five-game series against the Jackson Generals (Seattle Mariners), the Stars returned home to play the Birmingham Barons (Chicago White Sox) and before hitting the road for five-game set against the Biscuits (Tampa Bay Rays). The Stars are 17-20 against American League foes this season.

Roster Moves... On Friday, RHP Frankie De La Cruz was transferred to the Stars from Triple-A Nashville while RHP Mark Williams was transferred to High-A Brevard County from Huntsvlle. De La Cruz, 29, was 1-6 with a 7.77 ERA in 11 games with the Sounds. Williams, 23, had a 5.82 ERA in nine appearances with the Stars since being promoted to Huntsville from Brevard County on April 21st.

Previous Game... On Monday night, the Huntsville Stars took one of their worst losses of the season, falling to the Montgomery Biscuits by a final score of 13-2. After the Stars took a 1-0 lead, the Biscuits went on to score 12 unanswered runs, including 10 combined in the fifth and sixth inning. Montgomery cranked out a season-high 19 hits and four homers. For the Stars, outfielder Brock Kjeldgaard hit his team-leading 11th homer of the season.
