Columbus Lions News Release
COLUMBUS, GA (Mar. 26, 2008) - Coming off their first loss of the season versus Erie, The Columbus Lions (1-1) of the American Indoor Football Association look to rebound as they get set to take on the Baltimore Mariners (1-1) on Friday.
With a bus trip scheduled to depart the Columbus Civic Center on Wednesday night, the Lions have plenty of time to review last week's loss against Erie. "Big plays and mistakes will kill any football team, and that's exactly what killed our chances last week," says Head Coach Jason Gibson.
Despite giving up two turnovers for defensive touchdowns, the Lions still had a chance late in the game to stage a comeback against the River Rats. The Lions defense withheld Erie to 191 yards of total offense. The Lions also held their offense to 13 completions, but 5 of those went for River Rats touchdowns.
With starting quarterback Joey Conrad slatted to miss this week's game due to a shoulder injury, back-up Maurice Mullins will get the start this week. He stepped in for Conrad in last week's second half completing 11 of 19 passes for 133 yards and 3 touchdowns.
The Mariners have had two weeks to prepare for the Lions as this game marks their home-opener for the 2008 season. Baltimore opened the season at Reading losing 36-27 and got their first win in Week 2 against Florence 35-32.
"Baltimore is a very good football team, so we need to be focused and eliminate mental mistakes. If we do that we should be able to get back to our winning ways," says Head Coach Jason Gibson.
