Long Island announces name and contest winners

Patchogue, NY. The American Basketball Association (ABA) Long Island professional basketball team has announced that the team's name will be the STRONG ISLAND SOUND. The team begins play in November.
"The name is a result of a combination of ideas we received from high school students that participated in our Name Our Team Contest earlier this year. We received over 160 entries from over 300 students from the following school districts: Center Moriches, Islip, Longwood, Northport, Rocky Point, Smithtown and William Floyd," said Darren Cioffi, team co-owner. "I want to commend all of the students that participated; it took us a long time to come to a decision about the right name for our team and anyone of the entries could have been the winner."
The winning entries came from students in the Longwood, Smithtown the William Floyd School districts. Each student will receive two season tickets to the team's inaugural season as well as team apparel.
